Counterpoints

This piece was created for exhibition in “The Art of Contemporary University Printmaking”, an exhibit of prints by university art teachers and students from across the southeast. The work was on display at the Fire House Gallery in Louisville, Georgia from April 28 - May 30 2010.

Artist Statement:
My work, “Counterpoints”, explores the often seemingly opposing worlds of man and nature. For this piece I chose two images that may at first appear to be completely contradictory – a monumental concrete structure, and a delicate natural composition. I see beauty and harmony in both of these subjects, existing along side one another as complementary parts of an ordered whole. Using primarily aquatint, etching and soft ground drawing, I attempted to express the aesthetic interest and excitement that is created through light and texture across the forms of my subjects, bringing these two worlds together and finding a common ground through art.
